A Calgary police officer has been charged in connection to an on-duty incident.

It happened on May 28, 2008 while the officer was trying to administer a breathalyzer test.

While trying to give the test, the situation escalated and the officer allegedly hit the man who was involved in a crash earlier that day.

The nine-year veteran of the police force has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The officer has now been assigned to administrative duties while the case works its way through the courts.
