An army of current and former Telus employees were out volunteering Saturday, not just in Calgary, but across the country.

The Telus team members were at various spots including the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank, where volunteers were stocking shelves and assembling hampers for those who can't afford to feed themselves or their families.

A cheque for over $16-thousand was presented to the Food Bank on behalf of Telus and its employees.

This is the fifth year for the "Telus Day of Service" which is now getting some international recognition.

"The Association of Fundraising Professionals actually named Telus the most outstanding philanthropic corporation globally, and that's the first time a Canadian company has ever received that recognition. More importantly though, it's just being able to give back and see the ability to make a difference," said Josh Blair, Telus Executive V.P. Human Resources.

Other locations in Calgary where Telus workers volunteered include Ronald McDonald House and the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
