A second person has died after a violent home invasion and double shooting in B.C.

The drama unfolded Saturday morning in a home nine kilometres east of Cranbrook.

Neighbours called police when they heard shots ring out.

RCMP arrived on scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. to find one person dead and another critically injured.

RCMP say 43-year-old Leanne Laura MacFarlane died at the scene while 42-year-old Jeffrey Todd Taylor succumbed to his injuries in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital Saturday night.

RCMP say they believe the attack was targeted, but the victims may not have been the intended target.

This isn't the first time police have been to the property where the shooting occurred.

In October of 2009, police responded to a non-fatal shooting in Cranbrook outside of the Sam Steele Inn.

The next day, two of the three men charged in connection to the incident were arrested at the location of this latest shooting.

At that time, drugs and cash were found inside one of the residences on the property.

The Major Crimes Unit from Kelowna has been called in to assist with the investigation and the search for a suspect or suspects is underway.
