The University of Calgary is unveiling its newest solar car.

The vehicle is the U of C's entry in the American Solar Challenge.

The race is celebrating its 20th anniversary and will run from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Chicago, Illinois.

About 50 students worked on the vehicle over the last two years.

The car is lighter, stores more electricity, and is more aerodynamic than earlier models.

The car has been a top secret project, but starting Monday it'll be seen by students all over the province.

"We want to make this technology a viable thing, so there's a little bit of competitive nature, but there's also a lot of cooperation. Once the race has happened, we do share a lot of information, and it happens naturally because we have to submit technical specs to the race," commented Brandon Heenan.

This week, the car will travel to High River, Medicine Hat, Wainwright, Westlock and Camrose.

The American Solar Challenge begins June 20th.
