Police are investigating a suspicious death in a suburban northwest neighbourhood.

Police removed the body of a middle-aged male victim from a home on Edgeridge Green NW during the noon hour.

Officers won't say how the man died, but they were called to the area after reports of gunfire.

Several forensic officers and detectives spent hours combing the scene for evidence and interviewing neighbours.

Officers first arrived at the Edgemont home just after 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Neighbours say they were startled awake early in the morning by the sounds of gunfire and screeching tires.

"It was about 1:30 or 2 in the morning. I heard a gunshot, something that definitely sounded like a gunshot, and then a car screeching down the street really fast," commented neighbour Hend Hammouda.

Police say it was a targeted attack.

It's believed the victim was attacked when he opened his front door.

His body was found in the front entrance.

On Monday afternoon, police took two vehicles from the home for further investigation.

It's not yet clear if the victim is known to police, but CTV News has learned the man's family, including his children, were in the home when the attack unfolded.

Officers won't say if the family members actually witnesses what happened.

"There were family members that were present at the time, they were uninjured and they are now being cared for by extended family," said Duty Insp. Darren Cave with the Calgary Police Service.

Police do not have any suspects at this time, but more information about the victim and his injuries will be released once an autopsy is completed later Monday or Tuesday.
