Once the Peace Bridge is built, there is a chance the city will also install a new pedestrian crossing light.

Some are worried about the impact that light will have on traffic flow along Memorial Drive.

The light could be installed at Memorial Drive and 8 Street N.W.

There is already a pedestrian crossing light at 7 Street and a traffic light at 10 Street.

Concerns are being raised about three lights in such a short distance along such a busy traffic artery.

The city has not yet decided what to do but says the lights could remain as is, rather than adding another crossing close to the bridge.

Another option being considered is synchronizing the lights so if a new one is added at 8 Street it will not impede the flow of traffic.

Alderman Druh Farrell says the city's transportation department still has to consult with the communities of Hillhurst and Sunnyside before any decision is made.

"We need to work with the community and the transportation department to find the best option possible," says Farrell.

Construction on the Peace Bridge is expected to be finished by late fall. Farrell says 5,000 people are expected to use the new bridge every day.
