SASKATOON - A Saskatchewan man who threatened the prime minister, the premier of Saskatchewan and the head of the Canadian Grain Commission has escaped jail time.

Donald Lorenz has been given a conditional sentence after he pleaded guilty in March to three counts of uttering threats against Stephen Harper, Brad Wall and Elwin Hermanson.

Court heard the 68-year-old Allan resident made phone threats starting last June, with the last call coming Feb. 14, although there was no direct contact with any of the men.

The Saskatchewan government has since boosted security around the premier during public appearances and for all members of government at the legislature.

As part of his sentence, Lorenz is prohibited from having firearms for 10 years.
