The University of Calgary is taking a new approach in dealing with pro-life student activists.

Officials have now charged the group with non-academic misconduct which could result in expulsion from the university.

The students and the university are engaged in a long battle over pro-life demonstrations on the campus.

The group displays posters with graphic images and has ignored repeated requests by university officials to turn the signs inward so they do not offend people passing by.

The students have refused citing freedom of speech and last year were charged with trespassing.

The charges were eventually stayed.

Academic penalties can range from fines to expulsion.

University officials won't comment on the case but student activist Cameron Wilson says he is willing to sacrifice his education for his cause.
