The federal government is holding a second deportation trial to ensure Jackie Tran can never return to Canada.

Tran is an accused gangster who was deported back to his native Vietnam last month after nearly six years of legal battles.

The Immigration and Refugee Board originally ordered Tran deported in 2004 after he was convicted of cocaine trafficking and assault with a weapon.

Police have always maintained Tran is a member of a Calgary gang.

Tuesday's hearing will determine if Tran has links to organized crime.

If that link is proven, Tran could not be pardoned and could only be allowed back into Canada if he gets approval from the federal Justice Minister.
