A program encouraging Calgarians to report on drunk drivers is proving to be a big success.

For the past five months police and Mothers Against Drunk Driving have been urging Calgarians to call 911 and report impaired drivers. The number of calls has jumped 60 percent.

Louise Knox with Mothers Against Drunk Driving or MADD says

"I am just so pleased the City of Calgary has stepped up. The citizens of Calgary came through, the public spoke, police have listened".

There has been a seventeen per cent increase in charges because of the 911 calls compared to the same time period last year.
