Some parents and school officials are upset about heavy construction equipment driving through their school zone.

Construction of the West LRT means more dump trucks are driving through the school zone outside Alexander Ferguson School.

The school is on 26 Street S.W. which is two-lane road between 17 Avenue and Bow Trail.

The area has two crosswalks and parents are concerned about their children's safety. Many would like to see the truck rerouted during construction.

"It's unnecessary, this is a school zone and there are lots of kids and it's dangerous to have those trucks cutting through," says Diana Murray.

"I don't think [the truck drivers] see very well and when kids are crossing, I worry their visibility isn't as good as it could be," says Annette Walter.

"I would normally think large trucks should go down main roads rather than side streets," says Carolyn Kildare.

The alderman for the area, John Mar, says his is aware of the concerns and is trying to find a remedy.

Residents in the area say they have also noticed more passenger vehicles cutting through the area now that access to Bow Trail from 29 Street has been closed.
