A 51-year-old Calgary man has been charged in connection to the sexual assault of three boys.

Garry Prokopishin is facing several charges including: luring a child; obtaining or attempting to obtain sex from a person under 18; and sexual contact with a youth by a person of authority.

The charges are related to assaults that allegedly happened between January 2006 and April 2008.

Prokopishin was a foster parent and in 2006, he and his wife accepted the Foster Parents of the Year award.

Investigators believe that over the past 20 years, 55 foster children have lived under the care of Prokopishin and his wife. All the foster children were boys ranging in ages from 14 to 17.

"When the investigation was launched, in June of 2009, the home was for foster care and was suspended and remained suspended so there are no other children in the home or at risk at this time," says Kevin Brookwell from the Calgary Police Service.

Calgary police have not spoken with all the boys that lived in the home. "We followed up with as many of the 55 people that we knew lived in that home. As a result, we were able to make contact and talk to 13 of those 55. The investigation remains on going," says Brookwell.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Meanwhile, Child and Family Services Minister, Yvonne Fritz says there will be a review of the Calgary foster home.
