Three Calgary police officers have been charged with assault in two separate incidents.

The first incident happened in December of 2008.

Two officers were in an unmarked police car when they pulled a vehicle over for a traffic stop.

The officers ended up getting physical with the driver who later lodged a formal complaint.

The Edmonton Crown Prosecutor's Office reviewed the case and assault charges were laid.

Police will not reveal the identity of the officers but will say they are four-year members of the force.

The second incident happened in April of 2009.

Again, an officer was in an unmarked car when a vehicle was pulled over for a traffic stop.

The officer ended up using a Taser against the driver who later lodged a formal complaint.

The crown prosecutor's office decided assault charges should be laid against the officer.

Again, police will not reveal the identity of the officer facing criminal charges but will say the person is a six-year member of the force.

All three officers have been placed on administrative duty until criminal proceedings are complete.
