Calgary police have issued a warning, in the interest of public safety, about an inmate who was recently released and is residing in the Calgary area.

Michael Edward Lopatriello, 44, served over 5 years in a federal prison for two counts of sexual assault and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or harm.

Police are warning the public that Lopatriello has a history of sexually assaulting young males and has used alcohol and pornography to gain compliance from his victims in the past.

Lopatriello was convicted of sexual assault charges in Alberta and British Columbia and was released on Monday, January 11, 2010.

He is now in the Calgary area and will be monitored by the Calgary Police Service High Risk Offender Program for the next two years.

  • 73 kg or 160 lbs.
  • Fair complexion
  • Brown hair and green eyes

The Calgary Police Service has considered privacy concerns in this matter and believes that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of Lopatriello's release.
