For the second month in a row, the number of jobs created in Alberta is on the rise.

Unemployment in Alberta is now at 6.7 percent and in Calgary its 7 percent. Both numbers have fallen in recent months unlike the national figure which remained the same in December.

Patsy Corning says the employment picture for her is definitely brightening.

Corning was laid off in June and only had one job interview in six months. But that's all changed.

Now, she has a temporary job and three interviews this week. "It makes me feel confident and brings up your whole self esteem. You feel that you're needed in the industry and you're going to be busy," says Corning.

A local recruitment firm says it's also seeing a similar turnaround.

"A few months ago we would have been happy to get someone any offer but are now able to help them find something they'd be really happy with for a longtime so that's nice," says Corey Jackson from Roneta Professional Search.

"It looks like the employment picture is stabilizing and the worst may be behind us now and quite probably see some reasonable growth in 2010,' says Frank Atkins, an economist at the University of Calgary.

But Atkins also cautions that unemployment figures still have a long way to go before jobs are considered stable.
