The weather has made Calgary roads challenging for drivers this winter.

Snow storms early in the season had many of you calling for better snow removal.

Now a Calgary alderman is putting forward a motion that could improve things.

Ric McIver is asking administration to come up with several options for Council to consider.

One would involve policy changes so Calgarians with snow plowing equipment could help on a volunteer basis.

Another is to make City vehicles available to help in snow clearing during major snow storms.

Alderman McIver wants the City to re-define things like what makes a road passable.

But to plow residential streets mean making some changes to parking policies.

So many people park on the streets in Calgary that proper clearing can be very difficult, so somehow you have to get vehicles off the street.

McIver says it could be as simple as rotating parking to alternate sides of the street in the critical days after a major snow storm.

Now Alderman McIver wants to give administration some time to investigate the possibilities.

If the rest of Council goes along with him on this, the report would come back to City Council in May.
