The body of a woman found dead in a Calgary hotel room New Year's Day has been identified as 33-year-old Renee Wood of Calgary.

Wood's body was discovered in a hotel room in the 4600 block of 16th Avenue NW around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 1st.

An autopsy conducted Monday morning failed to produce a cause of death and further tests have been ordered.

It could take months before those results are known.

Meantime, police are treating the death as suspicious and the Homicide Unit is investigating.

Police are also looking for a man who was seen checking into the hotel with Wood the afternoon of Thursday, December 31st.

Police say the man is not considered a suspect but they believe he may have information that could assist in their investigation.
