The Canadian Avalanche Association is advising backcountry enthusiasts to use extreme caution when heading into the mountains.

Officials say this year's snowpack is more stable than previous years, but they are cautioning people about the impact the wind has had.

In many areas, the wind pushed firm, dense snow onto softer, weaker layers.

In Kananaskis Country, the chance of an avalanche is rated at "Considerable" for alpine areas.

In Banff National Park, the rating is the same, although by Monday, the risk in alpine areas will be "High".
