The Calgary Catholic School District is anticipating the cold weather in the forecast for the beginning of the week could impact some of its schools.
Because of this, officials have issued the following advisory to parents and guardians:
- All students should be well prepared for the extreme cold conditions caused by low temperatures and high wind chills and should not be left unattended at bus stops or spend any extended period of time outdoors under any circumstances. Parents should form an emergency plan with their children so they have clear instructions about what to do if the bus does not arrive.
- Buses will run as close to schedule as possible but extended delays do occur and should be expected. Parents can find information about bus delays at myschoolbusmonitor.ca or by contacting their child's transportation provider directly.
- If parents/guardians cannot ensure the safety of their child to and from school, the child should be kept at home or other arrangements should be made for the daily supervision of the child.
- All CCSD schools located within the City of Calgary limits will remain open to provide a safe, warm and secure environment for attending students.
- Schools located in Airdrie, Cochrane and Chestermere may close based on weather conditions, as they serve a large number of rural students (for information about bus delays in these areas, please contact 403-250-0016).
- As is our normal protocol when temperatures drop below -18 degrees (including the wind chill factor), children will be kept indoors during lunch hour and scheduled breaks.
- Parents/guardians are advised to listen to local media for updates on weather, transportation and school closures.
