A woman was airlifted to hospital after a crash on the QEII.

It happened on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. near Airdrie.

Police say the driver of a Suzuki Tracker heading southbound lost control. The vehicle went through the centre median and into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle crashed into the wheels of a tractor trailer.

The female driver in the Tracker was taken to a Calgary hospital via STARS air ambulance.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and say road conditions may have been a factor. The highway was lightly covered in snow.
