Fire investigators say it could be at least a week until they are closer to finding the cause of a fire that destroyed five homes.

Flames tore through homes in the community of Citadel in northwest Calgary early Saturday morning.

Fire crews were hampered by severe weather conditions.

Trucks became stuck in the snow and firefighters were forced to walk hoses into the area.

When the fire was knocked down, five homes were destroyed and two others suffered damage.

The resulting accumulation of ice is making the investigation into the cause difficult.

Crews still haven't been able to turn off the water to the homes which is making matters worse.

Damage is estimated at over two million dollars.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.

A fund has been set up to help at least one of the families affected by the fire.
