A Calgary alderman says all new homes should have a fire sprinkler system but home builders are not impressed.
Ward 4 Alderman Bob Hawkesworth will put forward a motion on Monday asking for a feasibility study into the idea.
He has the support of the Calgary Fire Department which says there has never been a death in North America in a home that had such a system.
But the Canadian Home Builders Association is against the idea.
Officials say the costs of sprinkler systems are several thousand dollars and insurance rates can go up due to the risk of flood damage.
