The Wildrose Alliance Party's chief of staff has resigned following a comment he made on Twitter about the premier that landed him in hot water.

Stephen Carter announced Tuesday he's resigning, but not because of his Twitter posting. He said his event planning business is failing and claims creditors are coming after him to damage party leader Danielle Smith's credibility.

Carter apologized last week after sending the Twitter message that poked fun at Ed Stelmach's style of speaking.

The comment, which stated: "Just saw da premier making a speech. Dat was quite a speech. Dem media better report it right," was posted last Thursday after the premier gave a speech at the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties in Edmonton.
