Thousands of Calgarians took part in Remembrance Day ceremonies on Wednesday.

One of the largest ceremonies took place at The Military Musuems where close to 10,000 people showed up.

The federal Minister of the Environment Jim Prentice delivered the Remembrance Day message.

Donations were collected for the Military Families Fund.

A pipe band signaled the start of the Remembrance Day ceremony at Calgary's oldest war memorial.

The pipers weaved their way through the large crowd gathered at the cenotaph in Central Memorial Park.

Wreathes to honour Canada's fallen soldiers were laid at the base of the memorial.

For veterans who were not able to make it to a public ceremony, a special one was held at the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Facility.

About 140 veterans live at the centre and the oldest vet is 101-years-old.
