A Calgary soldier killed in Afghanistan was laid to rest on Tuesday.
Family and friends stood by as a military procession carried Sapper Steven Marshall's casket into the Centre Street Church.
Over 1,200 packed the church to pay tribute to the 24-year-old.
Marshall was just one week into his deployment when he was killed by an IED.
The Calgarian was an avid Flames fan and was remembered for his sense of humour. During his eulogy, a childhood friend said, "Steve will always be remembered as the life of the party, the entertainer, one of the noisy boys of the neighbourhood."
"Sapper Marshall was an outspoken enthusiastic soldier," remembers Warrant Officer Mark Flint. "He certainly wasn't shy to share his opinion."
Marshall was a member of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment based in Edmonton.
