One person is dead after a fiery crash on the QEII Highway.

It happened around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

RCMP say they received a number of calls about a vehicle heading northbound in the southbound lanes.

By the time police got to the area, near the Carstairs overpass, the vehicle had crashed head on with a semi.

Both vehicles ended up in the ditch and bust into flames.

Other drivers stopped and tried to help but the driver of the vehicle was already dead. The driver of the semi did not have any injuries.
