Alberta Health Services (AHS) has run out of money for foot surgeries on the Calgary area.
Liz Faas was scheduled to have surgery to remove a bunion on her foot but learned.
Twenty-four hours before she was supposed to have the elective surgery, she found out it was cancelled.
"I thought they should have known ahead of time and that they could possibly get a hold of people before they rearranged their whole lives," says a disappointed Faas.
AHS provided enough funding to podiatry for 750 elective foot surgeries this fiscal year but the money has already been spent.
Health officials say since the province created the health superboard, deficits are no longer allowed.
The 450 remaining elective foot surgeries will now have to be cancelled.
Foot surgeries will resume when the new budget kicks in on April 1st.
