Fire has destroyed two homes in the southwest neighbourhood of Evergreen.

The blaze started around 10 p.m. on Thursday in the 100 block of Everoak Garden.

Firefighters battled the fire, and the wind, but two homes were completely destroyed and a third home ended up with damage to the outside.

One woman was getting ready for bed when she heard someone knocking on her door. When she ran out, she saw the flames spreading from her neighbours home to hers.

Thirty firefighters were needed to get the fire under control.

Crews remained on scene throughout the night dousing hot spots and investigating the cause.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Fire officials say an electrical cooking appliance on the deck started the fire.

The damage is estimated to be about $525,000.
