Calgarians wanting to get the H1N1 vaccine were lining up outside at least one closed clinic early Monday morning.
All clinics across the province were shut down over the weekend so health officials could review their plan.
Hundreds of people have spent hours lining up at clinics over the past week, some leaving without getting the shot.
At the Avenida clinic in southeast Calgary, some people found the signs misleading Monday and spent the morning lining up, even though it was closed.
The province plans to offer the vaccine to high risk groups when the clinics open their doors again but exactly when that will happen isn't clear.
Opposition leader David Swann says it is time for the health minister to quit.
But Ron Liepert says he is proud of what has been accomplished so far.
He says 400 thousand Albertans have been vaccinated already and a new strategy will be unveiled Tuesday.
Clinics will be limited to high risk patients only when they reopen.
Meanwhile, concerns over H1N1 have prompted officials with the Calgary Health Trust to postpone one of their events.
The event scheduled for Tuesday, November 3 at Hotel Arts has been put off until further notice.

Aw come on! Give these people a break. The sign, apparently, said that the clinic was closed in order to focus on those in high-risk groups.
Which could be read to mean that it would open FOR high-risk groups.
How about sending some of your nasty comments to those in charge who can't send out clear statements.

"At the Avenida clinic in southeast Calgary, some people found the signs misleading and spent the morning lining up"
The sign was pretty clear... H1N1 clinic has been SUSPENDED... Along with a CLOSED Sign... And Half a dozen Security officers telling people the clinic was CLOSED... yet they still stood there.... Heeeeeeeeere's yer sign..

okay well whoever made up this plan is stupid, they didnt make the right decision at all. so really is the vaccine going to help. people have had swine flu before, it wasnt just as big as an outbreak they dont care about 1 or 2 people they care when theres an outbreak and its constant

If it wasn't for greedy and/or dumb people, our media outlets would have nothing to write about.

Is the risk of not getting the immunization greater than the risk of getting it? YES
Healthy kids are dying and it could have been prevented with a simply immunization shot. So doubt it if you like, but i would rather not take that chance.

It is LAUGHABLE!
People can not think for themselves!! Did anyone (other than 'high risk') really 'need' this shot?

Wow, I can tell the guys commenting have never lived in a large city.. Small thinking for small time people...
I have left Calgary to London and decided to read the cfcn and all I see is criticism ..
Let people line up if they want to. Mind your own business.. I'm sure you'll be kicking yourself when the clinics are opened and these guys are next in line while you are trying to get it the next day (and again, the vaccine is gone). Calgary is a beautiful place, just too redneck and critical... learn and enjoy life not dwell on the news forums..
Don't go saying , why are you on here writing... I just had to write and tell how simple minded you guys are...
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS...

Stop being so mean, people. The government is being unclear.... Reports are that general immunization is suspended and clinics will only be for high risk persons. If I was in this category, I may misinterpret this to mean that high risk individuals would get the shot starting today. That the government is not giving immunizations today so they can sort this mess out is unreasonable. I, for one, thought that they would be open today. Maybe they could have actually worked over the weekend to fix their botched strategy! Who would assume that the government would be so incompetent as to need yet another day to plan? Guess they have proven me wrong and are even more incompetent than I thought!

It is truly amazing that people do not know what is going on. It just goes to show that a percentage of the population do not read newspapers or watch the news. No wonder people are ignorant of what goes on around them. I surely hope these people do not vote as they are obviously not aware of what is going on in the world.

heres a thought. There are many people in Calgary that does not understand English or may have very limited understanding of the language. Therefore, they are not able to comprehend that these clinics are closed until further notice. We are very lucky to be able to understand what is happening in our community, but don't assume that everyone has that same ability. Rather than being judgmental, we can try to be more emphathetic toward others.
Say what?
Ummmm....did the photographer/camerman/news reporter let the people know that the clinic was closed or did they just let people continue to wait in line for a good story?

HAHAHA!!!!For the love of mud!!! I mean really! There's me, who's not even remotely interested in getting that shot!, and i knew the clinics are closed!! this whole thing is a big circus and has been from the beginning!! Though I should add that I do respect some people's decision to go ahead and get the shot. But get a clue poeple!! Closed means closed!!! But hey this is providing cheap entrainment!!
Brad
Sheep.....bahhhhhhh. Media fed ignorance about the whole thing to begin with.
"Found the signs misleading". LOL.
I am thinking more than a flu shot is required for some of these people.
john
i think there's more to this. i seriously question safety of this vaccine.

For sure the person and his/her relatives who know and decide all clinics will be closed from Sunday already got the flu shot before that.

Frankly I am Not surprised at the public continuing to line up. It has always been apparent to me that the majority of the public--Do Not Pay attention to what the Media(s) try to explain to them.. Look at media photos of those in line ups--Not exactly the people that should be immunized first--THOSE AT HIGH RISK!
Kathy
....and people don't listen to the radio, they can't watch the evening news to get the latest update. They can't figure out just who is in the 'high risk' group. Amazing.
Mike
It's really too bad that some people can't comprehend "closed".
All we heard on every news cast radio and tv and in the papers is how all the clinics are closed, yet some people still line up for shots.
pb
Are people stupid? CLOSED MEANS CLOSED. not get in line and hope to get a shot.
Andrea
Don't people read the paper, listen to the radio, go on the internet or watch tv?
