The Dalai Lama landed in Vancouver earlier this week for a week long tour of Canada and will be in Calgary for the first time in almost 30 years.

His appearance is sponsored by the University of Calgary and includes a public address at the Saddledome as well as a series of meetings with various academic and cultural groups.

His Holiness, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama will be greeted by dignitaries at the airport when he arrives and will be white hatted by the mayor.

Members of Calgary's Tibetan community are also organizing a traditional welcome at the airport with a special dance and prayer ceremony.

The President of the Tibetan Association will also be at the airport and is among the few who will meet the Dalai Lama personally.

'I can not find the words to express this moment for the community, we have been looking forward to this moment since 2007," said Tashi Phuntsok.

The Dalai Lama's public address at the Saddledome is at 1:30 on Wednesday.
