Calgary police have charged a 38-year-old man in connection with a violent sexual assault that happened four years ago in the city's southeast.

38-year-old, Hector Gerardo Santos, is charged with sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement in relation to a violent sexual assault in April 2005.

In the early morning hours of April 28, 2005, a woman was walking along 36th St., near Radcliffe Dr. S.E., when she was attacked from behind.

The 46-year-old woman was taken to a nearby secluded area and physically and sexually assaulted.

The suspect then took the woman to another secluded area, assaulted her a second time, and then fled the scene.

Santos is known to police as they arrested him last month after he was caught taking pictures up the skirt of a 5-year-old girl.

His DNA was collected by investigators at that time and entered into the system.

Police in the 2005 case matched Santos DNA sample to evidence they collected and he was arrested without incident on September 10, 2009 and charged with the sexual assault.

Police says Santos has changed his appearance many time over the last decade and are asking anyone else who may have been assaulted by him to contact them.

Santos will appear in court on Friday, September 18, 2009.
