Earlier this month, a 3-year-old girl was killed by some construction material that fell from a partially built Calgary office tower.

On Saturday afternoon, just a few blocks away and on the same street that tragedy occurred, glass came crashing down onto the street below.

When emergency crews arrived on scene at 201 10th Avenue SE, shards of glass were still falling, narrowly missing vehicles stopped at a traffic light.

Calgary Police closed off the area while the Fire Department's High Angle Specialty Team repelled down from the top of the building.

They were able to secure and remove what was left of the two metre glass panel.

It's not clear how or why the glass broke, but a building inspector has been summoned to the scene to determine what happened.
