Three people have been charged with assaulting a police officer after an incident at the Virgin Festival.

During the Saturday night scuffle, police tasered a man.

Despite the disturbance, festival officials say this year's event has been a safe one.

19-thousand people enjoyed the music and festivities.

It wasn't until Saturday evening that an isolated incident saw five people arrested and two police officers injured.

City Police say security officers were trying to remove two people from one of the beer gardens when they called for backup.

Police say they used a taser on a man who allegedly assaulted one of the officers but it did not subdue the individual.

Eventually police were able to restrain the man and he was taken into custody.

Two officers ended up with minor injuries.

"There were a few incidents but that happens at every festival," said Andrew Bridge, Director of Virgin Festivals. "We've done these around the world. This is our ninth in Canada. We have a robust security and safety plan in place."

"One of the things for us is we want to make sure that the festival is a safe and secure place for people so we very much focus on a detailed security plan," said Nathan Rosenberg, Virgin Festival Chief Marketing Officer. "In the end, we love people to come out and have a good time. We love them to do it responsibly because, in the end, when you're with 19- thousand of your friends, you want to leave with good memories."

Festival goers tell CTV News it's been a great festival and they are comfortable with the security.

Calgary Police say for the most part, the crowd has been well-behaved.

Two men and one woman are charged with assaulting a police officer, two others are charged with creating a disturbance.

All five were released on appearance notices.

Police say the man officers attempted to taser did not appear to be injured, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.
