The owner of the former Molson Brewery in Inglewood allowed the media inside the property for a tour on Wednesday.

Cameras were allowed inside some of the 16 buildings on the site to record the state of the historic site.

Many of the buildings are in rough shape with holes in the walls, floors, and roof.

The owner, Ron Mathison of Matco Investments, has submitted a demolition application for a number of the buildings on the site.

A number of historic Calgary groups and the Inglewood Community Association want the buildings and land preserved.

But Mathison's spokesperson Eileen Stan says some of the buildings have to come down.

"There are concerns for the people working on the site. Things are falling down and creating safety hazards."

Officials with the Inglewood Community Association say they are looking for a carefully considered plan for the area.

Ward 9 Alderman Joe Ceci thinks some of the older sections will be tough to save.

A historical assessment for the site is currently underway.

Mathison will pay for the historical assessment, which will be conducted by an independent consultant approved by the province.
