A man attacked last week has died from his injuries.

On Tuesday, July 7th, police were called to the 4700 block of 16 Avenue NW around 9:30 p.m. after receiving a call that two men were fighting.

When they arrived on scene, they found a 58-year-old man with serious injuries.

The man was taken to hospital where he died Thursday, July 16th.

Investigators believe the altercation began when the suspect, 21-year-old Christopher Thomas Guthrie of no fixed address, asked the victim for money.

The victim refused and police say Guthrie then punched the victim who fell and hit his head on the concrete.

Guthrie is charged with aggravated assault.

Police are now consulting with the Crown to determine whether that charge will be upgraded.
