Two men in a stolen truck prompted a wild police pursuit Monday afternoon involving Calgary Police and RCMP.

It ended at Marlborough Mall where dozens of police officers flooded the area in search of the suspects, who managed to get away.

Shoppers at the mall were stunned when a white Chevy truck stopped at the mall entrance and two men ran inside.

"Their car was kinda like this and they slammed into the back entrance both of them came out and ran right into the mall." eyewitness Cynthia Macdonell told CTV News

"They just announced the doors are closed and the police is here." said another eyewitness.

Police locked down the mall to look for the suspects. The pursuit began around 4 o'clock when two men stole the truck from a landscaping site in the city's southeast.

"The guy said he left the keys on the floor or something. They were gone for a few minutes working or something and then the truck was gone." said Mel Corbett owner of Calgary Landscaping.

The thieves took the vehicle for a wild ride through Calgary and north to Didsbury on Highway 2.

RCMP laid several spike belts and one member was nearly hit by the truck. The suspects never stopped.

The front left tire was flattened by the spike belts but the suspects managed to turn around and head back into the Calgary area.

Hawcs followed closely as the truck raced back into the city.

Drivers swerved to avoid the vehicle as sparks flew from the truck's flattened wheel.

Angelica Slavic witnessed the speeding truck, "It was a flat tire and there was fire under there and I saw it and I thought, oh this guy is in trouble. But then I realize he was going to hit me if I didn't move to the side of the road."

The suspects ditched the truck outside Marlborough Mall and moments after police arrived on scene.

Officers blocked all the mall entrances with hopes of tracking down the two men, but it's believed they disguised themselves by changing clothes.

Police now hope surveillance video and evidence from inside the vehicle will lead them to the thieves.

Police are looking for two white males.

CTV News also learned that RCMP will be looking into whether attempted murder charges could be laid with regards to one of their officers nearly being run down.
