After 35 years, police say they have cracked an arson case that killed three people.

Michael John Morrison, 57, was arrested in Calgary on Wednesday.

He is facing charges of manslaughter, assault, and willfully setting a fire in connection with a couple of blazes including a deadly fire in Regina in 1974.

Three people, Rose Woznesensky, Alex Kostichuk, and Gladys Christie were killed when a fire broke out in an apartment building on February 10, 1974.

A young girl also suffered serious burns in the blaze. Melinda Woznesensky was seven-years-old at the time of the fire. She required more than 40 operations as part of her recovery.

Morrison made his first court appearance on Monday.

The McIntosh Street fire remained one of the Regina Police Service's top cold cases and is profiled in-depth on the service's website.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
