CTV News has unveiled Calgary's best kept secret: the City is considering a bid to host Expo 2017.

Alderman John Marr says Calgary already has a reputation for hosting world events.

"If Calgary is able to get it, we're going to have a huge investment in infrastructure, we're going to solidify our place as an international city."

Edmonton has already publically said it wants to host the Expo 2017 and has budgeted millions of dollars for it.

The City of Champions made its intentions known months ago and has been lobbying the province for support.

Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, Lindsay Blackett, says the province has some thinking to do.

"If you have two children competing for the same job, you've got to deal with kid gloves and see what comes forward."

The formal deadline to submit a bit package isn't until November.
