Residents of Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak have lost their battle to keep a road in their community open.

The road in question is Rocky Ridge Road in the northwest.

The province says it needs the space to build an interchange for the northwest leg of the ring road; the city says it needs the space for the future line of the northwest leg of the LRT.

Residents argued that if the road closes, up to 15,000 vehicles will be forced to use the intersection at Crowchild Trail and 12 Mile Coulee Road.

Some who live in the area say the road is not designed to handle that much traffic.

On Monday morning, city council decided to go ahead with the road closure.
