A Brooks man has died after being tasered by RCMP.

Grant William Prentice died on Wednesday evening after police used a Taser to subdue him.

Clifton Purvis, a spokesperson for the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), says Prentice was reported to have been acting erratically, approaching people asking for help and had tried to force his way into a home.

ASIRT also says police were told by a caller that Prentice appeared to be hurt.  So far no details of what injuries Prentice may have had are being released.

RCMP and paramedics were called to the residential area at around 7:30 p.m.

RCMP say they found Prentice and used a Taser to subdue him before taking him into custody.

The man then went into medical distress and paramedics treated him.

The man was taken to hospital in Brooks where he later died.

Purvis says the investigation will look at whether Prentice was actually zapped by the Taser, whether it had anything to do with his death and whether the way he was restrained might have played a role.
