Calgary police have charged two people in connection to a gun-theft investigation.
Cara Patricia Gavin, 26, is charged with theft and weapons trafficking.
Steve Claudio Colin Todd, 23, is facing several theft and firearm possession charges.
The charges come after police suspected an employee of a local sports store and an associate were stealing guns from the business.
The investigation began with the recovery of two handguns by police.
While tracing the origins of the weapons, officers were led to Wholesale Sports in the 100 block of Heritage Way S.E.
The store sells firearms along with other sporting equipment.
Management of the store worked with police and did an audit of the store's inventory. That's when it was discovered that 56 handguns were unaccounted for.
On Thursday a female employee and an associate were arrested after someone allegedly saw her take three handguns and give them to the associate at a nearby location.
Police recovered the alleged stolen weapons and laid charges against Gavin and Todd.
