Four students at the University of Lethbridge are under investigation.
Two separate racist incidents happened during a provincial symposium focusing on ways to revitalize Alberta's indigenous languages.
During a banquet on Friday night, two male students allegedly tossed coins from a walkway onto conference participants below.
"A different group of young men also apparently mimicked chanting going on in the atrium associated with indigenous languages," says Bill Cade, the president of the university.
The actions by the students were captured on security cameras.
The students in question have been identified and are being investigated by the university.
Cade has spoken to conference organizers expressing his anger and regret about the incidents.
The investigation will determine the punishment for the students. All four could be expelled or suspended.
