Police say they have solved the death of a woman found in Lindsay Park more than four years ago.

The body of 43-year-old Shirley Lynn Allwright was discovered in a tent in a wooded area in southwest Calgary on August 30, 2004.

She was found by city parks workers and was identified by police as a homeless sex trade worker.

Police put out a public appeal for information but weren't able to make an arrest at the time.

On Tuesday, however, investigators with the Calgary Police Service and La Sret du Qubec arrested 31-year-old Claude Baril of Quebec.

He was charged with manslaughter in Allwright's death.

Police say Baril and Allwright were casual acquaintances and they had been looking for him after the killing.

Baril will be transferred to Calgary for his court appearance.

Cause of death and motive for the killing are being withheld.
