Two police officers accused of beating a homeless man have been found not guilty.

Cst. Dino Izzo and Cst. Roland Stewart were charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm for an incident that happened in the police administration building in November 2007.

William McCormack says he was drunk when he entered the building and fell asleep in the stairwell.

He says he was beaten by the officers and suffered a cut to his head and a broken rib.

Izzo and Stewart admitted to kicking McCormack in the head and punching him in the ribs.

The officers said they felt threatened and believed that the man had a weapon.

In handing down his ruling, the judge said that the credibility of McCormack was questionable given the amount of alcohol the man had consumed prior to the incident.

He also agreed with the defence contention that the amount of force the two officers used was not excessive.
