The Banff Mineral Springs Hospital will temporarily suspend Maternity services. It means women who would normally deliver their babies in Banff will have to go to Canmore.

The Hospital administration says it's a matter of safety, because there's a shortage of qualified obstetrical nurses at this point, although the hospital is trying to recruit more nurses.

Banff's Hospital Executive Director has been in discussions with Canmore's staff, and has been told the hospital in Canmore can handle the additional deliveries, but if it can't women may be forced to go to Calgary.

Women and the two doctors in Banff who deliver babies are concerned that a temporary closure will lead to a permanent closure of the Obstetrics Services in Banff.
