City police are investigating a potentially dangerous incident that happened Sunday afternoon at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC).

Shortly after 2 p.m., STARS Air Ambulance dropped off a patient at the PLC. It was about take off again when a car came through the barrier gates to the landing pad. The co-pilot was able to get out of the helicopter and grab the driver out of the car before he could drive into the helicopter.

Someone at the hospital recognized the individual as a patient or former patient. He was in possession of prescription drugs.

The man was taken into the hospital for further assessment. Charges are pending. One of the helicopter crew members suffered a slight blow to the head in the altercation.
