Two paramedics who jumped out of their vehicle to help a man on fire in downtown Calgary were honoured for their bravery Friday.
Paramedic Neil Tatomir and EMT Odessa Deans jumped out of their ambulance in front of the Harry Hays federal building on February 12.
They grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the man, who was engulfed in flames.
The incident was captured on video by a freelance cameraman and the paramedics can be clearly seen helping the man.
Tatomir and Deans were given the Silver Heart for Distinguished Conduct award for their actions.
The award was introduced in 2007 to reward outstanding acts by Calgary EMS employees.
Friday's ceremony marked the first time the honour has been awarded.
