The city continues to grapple with ways to get Calgary drivers to slow down in playground zones.

Last year, the city ran a pilot project to see how drivers would react if speed limit signs were ditched in favour of playground zone warning signs.

The results are in and it seems adding more signs only confused drivers.

"I think we need to standardize it and we need an education program and then a very comprehensive enforcement program," suggests Alderman Gord Lowe.

Lowe wants the city to create a universal sign that applies to all school and playground zones. "If we just create a zone and have it in effect for a defined period of time, seven days a week, 365 days a year, then the problem goes away," says Lowe.

The city will begin another study based on the standardization idea. It will now look into the costs and logistics surrounding a uniform sign.

The results from that report will be presented to the Land Use and Planning Committee in September.
