Airdrie RCMP officers say it's the strangest attempt at child abduction they've ever investigated.

During the lunch hour on Wednesday, students were playing outside Ralph McCall Elementary School.

At one point a man's voice began booming across the school yard. Witnesses report he used a loudspeaker to say, "Girls in the field, come over to my truck," and "Come pet my dog."

When adults heard the man, they began walking towards the pick-up truck to find out what was going on. The suspect drove off.

Police are now looking for the man and his vehicle. He was driving a Dodge Ram that was tan or gold in colour. The truck had a digital back licence plate cover that read "too loud for you." The man had one, possibly two, golden retrievers with him.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
