The economic downturn doesn't seem to be impacting the opening of the first Bass Pro Shops in Western Canada.

The American retailer is looking for 250 employees for its new store in Balzac.

The company is holding a three-day job fair and organizers say interest in their positions is high. "All ages are coming through from different areas of Alberta," says Giles Fisher, the general manager of the store.

Eric Clark recently moved to Alberta to be closer to his children. He's been working as a handyman for four months but work has slowed so he put in an application to Bass Pro. "I like to hunt and I play golf...when I saw the ad in the paper I thought I would come out and have a look and see what they had to offer and what I could fit in at," says Clark.

The mammoth two-storey outdoor superstore will have 11 different departments and will also feature an archery range and an arcade.

The last day of the job fair is Wednesday. It runs from 8 a.m. unitl 7 p.m. at the Airdrie Town and Country Centre.

Bass Pro is planning to open its doors to customers on April 9th.
